e are situated just four miles from Holsworthy, a traditional market town. Holsworthy is mentioned in the Domesday book as being in the estates and earldom of Harold in the year 1053. The remains of a small Norman oratory, circa 1130 can be found in the present church.

olsworthy is described as a 'port' town, the word 'port' being Saxon for a secure place to trade, a market and harbourage of goods. Today visitors can still enjoy the busy pannier market on Wednesdays and visit places of historical interest. Throughout the year Holsworthy is host to a number of special events such as the Agricultural show in early May, a vintage vehicle rally in late June, the St Peter's fair week in early July and the winter carnival held in mid November.
